StreetLife Band featuring LA Robinson was formed in 1989 and served as the resident house band at the Treasure Island Inn of South Daytona, FL from 1989 through 2001. Among their original lead singers were Barry Smith of “The Platters” and Rose Cornelius of “The Cornelius Bros. and Sister Rose.” LA Robinson signed on as front man and lead vocalist in 1994 and has been with the group ever since. After leaving Treasure Island, the band has worked at one time or another at most of the popular local venues including Inlet Harbor, Caribbean Jack's, and the Grand Seas Resort. Currently, they can be found most weekends at The Grille at Riverview in New Smyrna, FL located just outside of Daytona Beach, where they have appeared steadily since 2005.
The current lineup consists of LA Robinson, lead vocals and percussion, as well as Gary Hallenbeck on guitar/vocals and Bob Ryan on keyboards/vocals, both of whom are original group members. Bob Ryan also plays left hand keyboard bass as needed, while also utilizing the highly sophisticated Korg Pa4x arranger keyboard which enables the trio to create the sound of a full band. However, depending on the event/venue budget, the group can call on a pool of traditional drummers and bass players who have worked with the group throughout the years. Bob and Gary also occasionally branch out as a duo to accommodate events or venues with a lighter budget.
Their repertoire is a mixed variety of dance music encompassing everything from a dinner set of American Songbook standards, to Motown, to disco – with an emphasis on the Motown sound. Examples would be:
